In November 2006,Biotechnology Journal will publish its first countryspecific issue on China. The idea of this countryspecific issue is not only to publish biotech articles from Chinese scientists, but also to more generally introduce science in the Peoples Republic of China, reporting on recent progress in its economy, relating the history of biotech, how basic and applied sciences are promoted and which biotech companies are currently present in China. Scientific contributions from Academia should cover topics from food biotech, human therapeutics and diagnostics, ecology and environment, to society and communication. We especially invite Chinese biotech companies to give an overview of their activities, and a selection will be published for each of the categories above. To conclude, we would like to publish broader overview articles on topics such as “How to intensify the biotech cooperation among different nations”, “Coping with virus caused pandemics”, “Improving the quality of food and medicare for more than a billion people”, “Increase in industrial production coupled to a healthy environment” or “The new covenant for a world worth living in”. Manuscripts should be submitted the very latest by July 1st, 2006.
