Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation,
It is a pleasure for me today to draw your attention to a renewed call for applications for the German Chancellor Fellowship Programme for Prospective Leaders from the People’s Republic of China. This fellowship programme, which is under the patronage of the Federal Chancellor, gives prospective leaders from China the opportunity to spend an extended period of time in Germany at an early stage in their career. The object is to enlist them for the future, when they hold important positions in business, academia, politics and society, as intermediaries between the two countries.
Prospective leaders from China, who have completed their first university degree (at least a Bachelor’s or comparable qualification) and subsequently gained initial work experience as well as exhibiting outstanding leadership potential in their careers to date, are eligible to apply. The programme addresses representatives of all professional groups and academic disciplines, especially those of the humanities and the social sciences.
During their one-year stay, the fellows carry out a project of their own design with a host they have chosen themselves (with a company, in administrations, in media organisations, at a higher education institution, etc.), and in addition, they are given the opportunity to get to know their host country well. In the long term, the programme thus aims at strengthening German-Chinese relations.
Today, we kindly ask for your support in drawing more attention to this programme. I would therefore be delighted if you could present the enclosed brochure to suitable young prospective leaders in your surroundings and, if possible, also make it accessible to representatives of other professional fields or point interested colleagues in Germany or China to the opportunities that this fellowship programme offers. Attached you will also find brief information on this fellowship programme that you are welcome to forward or print and then post at a suitable place in your institute.
The current call for applications for the programme refers to the fellowship period from September 2012 to August 2013. Apart from working on their own projects during this period, the German Chancellor Fellows from all three countries involved (the USA, the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China) will have ample opportunity to network with one another as well as get to know important institutions and research establishments in Germany. In addition, applicants with little or no knowledge of German will be offered to take part in an intensive language course in Germany before the fellowship starts.
For applicants from the People’s Republic of China, the deadline for the current call for applications is 30 June 2011. You will find more detailed information about the programme as well as the complete application package on our website: www.humboldt-foundation.de/BUKA. We will also be glad to answer any further inquiries you may have about the programme at info@avh.de.
Thanking you for your support
